Building Community, Equipping Believers, Serving Jesus MISSION STATEMENT: Smyrna Baptist Church exists for the purpose of building a community of fully equipped believers who give glory to God with every aspect of their lives! CHURCH BELIEFS The Holy Scriptures, which are the inerrant Word of God, is the basis of any statement of faith and for our conduct. This church receives the Scriptures as its sole authority in matters of faith and practice and subscribes to the Baptist Faith and Message as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention in 2000. The ordinances of this church are believers baptism by immersion and the Lords Supper. We believe that Jesus is the only way to the Father. "There is no other name under heaven by which you can be saved." We thank God for the Holy Spirit who is our Comforter, Guide, and who empowers us to live the Christian life. HISTORY On October 1, 1897, after a two-day meeting, a group of county residents worked to establish a new Baptist church. On November 16, 1897 plans were submitted for a new building and on December 31, 1897 the church was given a name, Smyrna Baptist Church. HISTORICAL TIMELINE 1955 – New Sunday School classroom and restroom facility added 1964 – First full-time pastor, Rev. John Crocker, hired 1969 – Additional Classrooms and children’s restroom facility added 1974 – Built parsonage on land that was donated to church 1979 – Addition of 2-story Educational wing 1998 – New, larger Sanctuary added Smyrna 2 2010 – 20 acres of land purchased for new church site 2011 – Site development work begins 2012 – Site Construction begins 2013 – Moved into New Church Building located at 18971 Carson Road, Dinwiddie, VA 23841
